Get involved

Our work is made possible by the dedicated volunteers, donors, and staff members who make up the Bridge community. Whether you can find an hour in your busy week to call someone in isolation, are looking for a career with meaning, or would like to provide the resources needed to carry out our mission, the Bridge family has a place for you.

Volunteer

The Bridge community includes over 400 volunteers who give the gift of their time, talent, and presence to help end isolation among people with disabilities.

Our volunteers come from diverse backgrounds, represent many faiths, have a wide range of abilities. They come to us as individuals or groups and in all stages of life, from people in their late teens to those in their senior years. Some have specialized skills that lend themselves to our work, and some come with only an—equally valuable—desire to serve. Whatever their differences, our volunteers are united by one thing: a drive to end isolation among people with disabilities and create communities in which everyone can thrive.

Volunteer Opportunities

Most of our volunteer opportunities are on the Eastside, at the flagship location of the Meyer Medical Equipment Center (MMEC) or our offices in Bellevue, or the Southside at the Tukwila location of the MMEC.

Bridge volunteers also serve at events held at churches throughout King County and visit guardianship clients throughout the Puget Sound area. For information on our current needs, please visit our profile on Volunteer Match or use our Contact form to inquire about how you can join our work.

Ongoing Opportunities

We are almost always looking for more people interested in the following volunteer positions:

OFFICE ASSISTANT

A great resume builder, our office volunteers answer phones, assist with event planning, respond to emails, and help with other administrative tasks. This position works best for people who can make an ongoing time commitment of at least once a week.

MMEC WORKSHOP ASSISTANT

Our MMEC workshop volunteers clean/refurbish Durable Medical Equipment and assist customers get equipment to improve their long term quality of life, recover from injury, medical procedure, or disability. This position works best for people who can make an ongoing time commitment of at least once a week.

EVENT VOLUNTEER

A wonderful way to get started with Bridge, event volunteers greet people as they arrive on Access vans, serve as table hosts, and help with setup and clean up for our events.

We encourage photographers, videographers, and sign language interpreters to consider using their skills at one of our gatherings, but—whether you volunteer once or once a month—a desire to build community and create connection is all you need to make a difference at a Bridge event.

Everyone has a role to play in ending isolation among people with disabilities. If you do not see a volunteer position that appeals to you, or if you have skills that you think would be helpful in some area of our work, please drop us a line through our Contact form so we can discuss how your interests, abilities, and aptitudes match up with our volunteer needs.
