Christmas with Christofer
Last Christmas, Spiritual Connections visited 10-year-old Christofer and his mother with a care package lovingly put together by hand.
The package contained many helpful tools, but little Chris’s favorite was the jingle bell.
His face lit up at the sound of its merry ringing.
Seeing the smile on his face brought back memories of when we first met the family.
ONE YEAR AGO…
Yasmine had recently emigrated to the United States as a single mother and the sole provider of her family.
Their lives changed forever when a Covid infection took a turn for the worse and left young Christofer in a paraplegic state.
Without any other relatives around to help, she quit her job to care for her son full time.
A connection through the Seattle Children’s Hospital brought them into our lives and we were able to provide them with equipment that would make this new chapter in their lives easier.
GATHERING AROUND THE FIREPLACE…
After opening their care package, we sat down in the warmth of their home and prayed together as a family.
We thanked God for His blessings and asked that He watch over this family’s health.
Knowing how isolating life can be as a caregiver and a non-English speaking person, we set them up with John Knox Presbyterian, a Spanish-speaking church that embraces disability.
In honor of their newfound friendship, the two came together and broke bread as a community.
