The Gift of Giving

Many years ago, in the dim lighting of her office, Linda paused from her work and wondered if being an accountant was her life’s purpose.

After a lot of self-reflection, she decided her true calling was helping people. She quit her job and found fulfillment as an in-home caregiver.

Unfortunately, after so many years of care giving, a back injury and arthritis severely limit her mobility.

In the past Linda could walk to the grocery store 3 blocks from her home. Now that her pain has worsened, the slight uphill path is akin to climbing a mountain. Even moving around her apartment with a walker is a struggle. Despite these physical challenges and the daily pain she endures, everyone who’s ever met her describes her as an incredibly “sweet lady.”

The solution to some of Linda’s mobility problems was a small electric scooter and the Meyer Medical Equipment Center was fortunate to have one that met her needs – small enough to fit in her apartment, yet powerful enough to climb over the hill and to the store she shops at.

We delivered it to her home and adjusted it to fit her body, then let her give it a try. It was a blessing to walk up the hill alongside her, cross the street at the light with time to spare, and watch as she drove into the store, something she couldn’t do for months!

Now we are looking for other ways to add to her quality of life by including her on the list of people served through our Spiritual Connections ministry. She will be included in our recipient list of Bridging Hearts gift baskets. Once we have in-person social events again, we hope to see her beautiful face there!

GiveBIG

This year Bridge is once again participating in the GiveBIG fundraising campaign. With your kindness and generosity, we take a step towards creating the world we want to live in.

This year’s GiveBIG campaign kicks off April 20, and culminates with a 48-hour giving event on May 4-5!
