10 Minutes To Clean: Hospital-Grade Sanitizing Service Available at the MMEC

Bridge Ministries is excited to announce a new service available through the Meyer Medical Equipment Center (MMEC): hospital-grade sanitizing services to help our community maintain health and safety during the Coronavirus epidemic. Beginning in April, we invite community members to come by our Tukwila location to have their water- and heat-proof items—including toys, medical equipment, kitchen items, and more—disinfected using our HUBSCRUB sanitizing system.

What is a HUBSCRUB?

HUBSCRUB’s have been shown effective against a wide variety of pathogens.

HUBSCRUB machines are disinfecting units used to clean and disinfect durable medical equipment in settings like hospitals, nursing homes, and rehabilitation centers. Using a combination of heat, chemical disinfectants, and UV light, these units thoroughly disinfect difficult-to-clean equipment such as wheelchairs, commodes, and walkers and have been shown to be effective against a wide range of pathogens through independent laboratory testing.

Take a look at this video for more information on HUBSCRUB systems.

Sanitizing services at the MMEC

Bridge invites anyone interested in having an item sanitized to drop by our Tukwila warehouse during regular business hours. Items can be brought to the door of our warehouse, or MMEC staff will be happy to assist with unloading items and bringing them inside.

A sanitation cycle takes about ten minutes to complete. Items coming out of the HUBSCRUB will be wet, so we advise that community members bring towels or tarps to protect the interior of their vehicles while transporting freshly sanitized items home. HUBSCRUB use will be offered on a drop-in, first-come-first-served basis, and we ask for patience as we roll out this new service. We ask for a donation of $10-20 dollars to help cover costs, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

What can I have sanitized?

Our HUBSCRUB machines can handle a wide range of items, including medical equipment, kitchen equipment, toys, and other household items. Most waterproof items that can withstand temperatures up to 110°—such as items made of metal, heavy-duty plastics, most types of rubber, and silicon—can be cleaned in our units.

Restrictions

HUBCRUB machines cannot be used on the following,

  • Items that will melt when exposed to 110° temperatures, such as lightweight plastics and some types of rubber;
  • Electronic items or items with electronic components;
  • Items that cannot be exposed to water, such as paper and fabric-covered cushions;
  • Items that are likely to discolor in intense UV light;
  • Items over 100 pounds;
  • Items that cannot fit in a 3’ W x 4.5’ D x 3.5’ H cube.

MMEC staff will be happy to advise anyone unsure about their items, but neither Bridge nor the MMEC can accept responsibility for items damaged during sanitation.

Other services at the MMEC

Sanitizing will be offered alongside the MMEC’s regular services.

Bridge will offer hospital-grade sanitizing alongside the MMEC’s existing services, which offer refurbished medical and mobility equipment to all comers on a donate-what-you-can basis. Due to the Coronavirus, MMEC has begun offering expanded delivery service and parking lot pick-up to help reduce exposure to our clients and staff alike.
