Crystal has been one of Bridge’s best self-advocates. She is a faithful supporter of Bridge and shows that support through writing her blog for our Facebook page as well as attending our Sunday Evening Celebrations. She is a person who will help in any way that she can and does not let her disability stop her in contributing both her time and talents to our organization.

We asked Crystal to share with you a little about herself and we think you will see what a huge heart and zest for life she truly has.

“I am in a wheelchair because I was born with Cerebral Palsy.  A friend with a disability who lived far away told me about Bridge and Sunday Evening Celebrations.  Although I don’t think she was ever able to attend any activities, I was very skeptical, but I needed more socialization.  I had no idea how much the people and activities of Bridge Disability Ministries would bless my life.  I wanted people with disabilities to know that they are loved and valuable.

I grew up in the Renton and Kent areas. I had an awesome, loving family, especially for my first 13 years.  My brother was also born with Cerebral Palsy and is in a wheelchair.  Our parents tried to give us every experience in life that we could afford. Some of those special experiences were meeting Amy Grant, going to Disneyland multiple times and visiting Knotts Berry Farm. We rode roller coasters- one of my most favorite things to do! I also attended two different summer camps for disabled children.

I enjoy my kitty, Comfort, posting on Facebook, going on daily outings everywhere, singing, writing, church, worship, praying, Africa, greeting cards, having visitors, giving, public speaking, TV shows, sunshine, encouraging hugs, birthdays, board games, music/concerts, loving babies/children and eating out.

Most of the time my disability is a blessing.  I LOVE people and do everything with ALL my heart!!!  I LOVE life!!!!

In 2016, after 20 years of prayer, I was given the most AWESOME joyous experience of my adult life!!!  I went on a short-term mission trip to South Africa.  For me, it was a little slice of Heaven!  I knew that Jesus really loved me!!  I have never felt so alive.  I have never felt so vital to God’s kingdom.  I was able to serve without any barriers.  My physical needs were not a burden.  I felt a sense of “family.”  I belonged.  I felt loved and valuable everyday.  The kids flocked to me immediately!  I found the core of my purpose.  I have never been so happy!!  Africa captured my heart.  Jesus made my dream come true.  I want to go on as many short-term mission trips in Africa as possible in my lifetime.  People that are sick, disabled, and dying in other countries are often killed and not loved.  I sincerely want to change that.

Spiritual Connections helps with isolation. It gives disabled people the chance to serve.  It lets people be themselves and it encourages advocacy.”

The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep recognize his voice and come to him. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. After he has gathered his own flock, he walks ahead of them, and they follow him because they know his voice.  John 10 :3-4
